Christine Schneider I grew up in Lakewood, Colorado, where I spent many hot summer days as a kid reading and drawing in our cool basement. Reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine. Once my father caught me reading a particularly exciting book past my bedtime by the night light beside my bed. "For heaven's sake!" he said. "If you're going to read past your bedtime anyway, turn on the light! You're going to ruin your eyes." Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to be an artist like my mother. She taught me many of the skills I use today. I was also very lucky to have excellent art teachers all the way through school who encouraged me to pursue a career in art. I chose the University of Kansas for college, where I studied illustration. My senior year of college, I spent spring break visiting publishers in New York and showing them my portfolio. The first book I illustrated, Jeremy's Muffler, written by Laura Nielsen, stemmed from that trip. I wrote and illustrated the next one, Picky Mrs. Pickle. My most recent book is called Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar -- an interactive counting book written by Margaret Wang. In addition to children's books, I illustrate and design for other publications like magazines and newspapers. I live in Lawrence, Kansas, with my husband and my daughter. She loves books, just like her mom!
